1. Air

The two international airports operating in Fiji are Nadi, lying in the western side of the island and Nausori that is located on the eastern coast of Viti Levu near to Suva. These two airports connect Fiji to all the major cities of the world. Direct flights to USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea and Canada are run by a number of international airlines. Both the airports also connect to the other outer islands of Fiji, including Vanua Levu and Kadavu.

Getting around the island in a flight can also be a good idea for those who are in a hurry. Several airlines in Fiji operate between the major islands with Sunflower Airlines and Air Fiji being two of the major ones. The Turtle Airways supplements the route network of these airlines, operating a seaplane service to the smaller islands. The longest established domestic airlines amongst the ones present, is the Air Fiji airline serving about 15 destinations including an international service to Tuvalu. The airline offers passes allowing tourists to travel through one of its three set routes. The Sunflower also offers a good service with a decent network.

2. Bus

Bus services in Fiji operate in three categories and the ticket rates are also decided accordingly. The cheapest are the local buses that have wooden seats and open windows and run on almost all routes of Fiji. These buses can be stopped whenever required by waving a hand towards them. The Express buses fall in the second category and have stoppages only in towns or villages. The most expensive are the air-conditioned tourist buses that ply between Suva and Nadi along the coastal regions, twice daily. These buses pick up and drop the passengers from the resorts and hotels and are also the fastest among the three categories.

3. Car

In order to hire a car in Fiji, tourists need to hold a valid driving license issued from their home country. The maximum speed limit in general roads is restricted to 30miles per hour (50km/h) and it is 50 miles per hour (80km/h) on the highways. Driving in Fiji is to the left hand side of the road. All major hotels, resorts and motels can arrange for rental cars. Cars can also be hired from the international airports. Some of the outer islands such as the Vanua Levu also have car rental facilities. The average cost for hiring economy cars cost up to $57 per day. The minimum age for hiring a car is between 21 and 25 that varies from one agency to other. A parking ticket costs around $20.

4. Ferry

Regular ferry services operate between all the major islands. Visiting the different islands on a ferry can definitely be a great idea for all those who love adventure and for experiencing the scenic beauty of the place at the same time. These scheduled ferry services are also supplemented by smaller boats, which are operated by several resorts.

5. Ship

A number of luxurious cruise ships and inter-island vessels operate regularly in Fiji. Cabins are usually booked on a first-cum, first serve basis. These cruise offer excellent amenities and activities that include swimming, snorkeling and spending time on the lonely and pristine beaches. The cruises also involve stopovers on the different villages along their way and offer an ideal opportunity to witness the traditional life of the Fijians.

6. Taxi

Taxis are considered to be a cheap option, as most of the Fijians do not own personal cars. It is advisable to negotiate the fare before commencing the journey. Tourists can get a rough estimate of the usual fares from most of the hotels. Taxis in Fiji can be flagged down. It is always good to carry change while traveling in taxis as the drivers usually have very little change. You can get around anywhere in the city for as low as $1.14. While the taxis in the major cities run on meters, smaller towns and villages have a fixed rate system. Flagging a taxi before 10pm would cost $1 while after 10pm would cost around $1.50. You can also hire a taxi for a day or half in fixed prices, which is quite similar to rental cars.
