Fiji weather is extremely variable and differs from one region to another. The rainfall here is also influenced by the topography of the island and varies accordingly. The southeast trade winds blowing over the island are responsible for causing rainfalls. The Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are the two largest islands of Fiji and are known as the prominent dry and wet zones respectively. Very little rain and a lot of sunshine is experienced by the other coral and smaller islands. The months from November to April are considered as the official hurricane season. The water temperature in summer rises up to an average of 80 to 84 ?F while it falls to an average of 78 to 80?F in winters.

The winter months from June to October are considered to be the best months for visiting Fiji and are ideal for diving when the water temperature ranges between 77 and 82?F approximately. The weather is very pleasant during this time with the southeast trade winds blowing over the island. Summer in Fiji falls between the months of November and April, which are usually wet and hot. The months of January and February experience the most rainfall and humidity.

2. What to Wear

A light tropical wardrobe is recommended while packing for Fiji. T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits can be carried, although it is not advisable to wear too short clothes such as bikinis and swimsuits in public. One of the most distinctive dresses of Fiji is the sarong or the wrap around ‘Sulu'. These Sulus can be worn in a number of ways making an ideal eveningwear. For business meetings, ties are not used in Fiji. Tourists are also recommended to respect the local customs and maintain the dress code accordingly.
