Hotels

The capital of Iceland, Reykjavik is obviously the best place endowed with hotels. Like other things in the country, the hotels too offer high quality and standards to visitors. Reykjavik's hotels are generally located in the tourist area, close to the shopping and eating destinations. Many hotels also offer tourist recreation facilities like information offices and guides as well as equipment rentals. Luxury options that are outfitted to cater to businessmen as well as the gentile tourists are located in the downtown region of the capital city. There are also quaint, relaxed hotels having fewer numbers of rooms and friendlier atmosphere, situated towards the center of the town. The capital city also offers dormitories and hostels for traveling students.

Hotels are not a very popular place to stay outside of Reykjavik city. The rest of the country offers an astounding array of motels, inns and lodges. These are rather romantic places to stay with their intimate, cozy interiors, fireplaces, and great country views. In addition, just because the places are small, it does not mean they compromise on quality and service.

Another great way to live in the countryside is to avail farmhouse accommodations. This refers to staying in the rooms or outhouses put out for rent by farmers of the district. With farmhouse accommodation, travelers can live with host families and mingle with them to learn the true culture of Iceland.

If living under a roof does not seem appealing to you then perhaps a night under stars would be a better option. In the warmer months of summer, Iceland is a great place to camp out in the wilderness, without the fear of being eaten by huge animals, since there are none on the island. You can choose to camp out on your own or contact tourist offices for information on camping tour and join them instead.
