40 Vacations - Travel Guides - Destination Las-vegas

Weather

Las Vegas is located in the middle of the Mojave Desert and is known for its hot and dry summers. Plenty of sunshine all through the year is the main feature of the Las Vegas climate. July and August are the hottest months of the year with the temperature rising above 100o F. Winters are pretty mild with cool nights and the occasional cold winds. The maximum temperature in the daytime rises up to an average of 60o F, while the night temperature falls down to 40o F. Las Vegas receives rainfall during the winter months, especially between the months of January and March. Occasional late afternoon thunderstorms also hit the city during summer. These storms originate in Mexico.

1. Best Times to Go

Las Vegas is mostly crowded in the months from March to November when it is at its best and the visitors can enjoy all the excitement and activities that the city has to offer. A trip during the off season, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, is also a good option as the hotel rates and airfares are at their lowest. However, it is important to ensure availability of all reservations well in advance, as the city never really has a dearth of tourists.

2. What to Wear

The best way to dress in Las Vegas is to maintain a simple dress code. Feel free to dress casually and comfortably while visiting Las Vegas. There is no specific dress code for visiting most of the restaurants. Nevertheless, while planning for special or official dinners at the most upscale restaurants, you may need to wear a coat.

If your trip is planned during the summer months, do not forget to carry shorts, t-shirts, and comfortable skirts. Although light weight jeans and trousers may be added to the list, going for denim clothes might not be advisable in the extreme heat at this time. Although the outside temperatures might be hot, the temperatures inside most casinos are kept cool. Business casuals would be appropriate during attending shows.

Winters in Las Vegas require warm clothes and heavy jackets at times, especially at night. Spring and fall can be enjoyed with sporting light summer attires and a few pairs of comfortable jeans and trousers.
