1. Air

Air Malé International Airport is the only international gateway in the Maldives and is served by several international airlines as well as a national domestic airline on a daily basis. The domestic airline Air Maldives, is the national carrier operating regular flights to the domestic airports at Hanimaadhoo, Kadhdhoo, Kaadedhdhoo and Gan. Helicopters and seaplanes can be used to travel to certain islands and resorts in Maldives.

Taxis are available at all airports and can either be flagged outside the airport or can be booked in advance.

2. Car

Cars are the best means of travel within the islands. Cars are available on rent at major islands like Male'. Several rental companies offer a wide selection of cars at affordable prices. Customer should have a valid driving license before renting out a car.

3. Boat

Boats are the most popular means of travel in the Maldives. Boats are termed as Dhoni and are all-purpose vessels powered by a diesel engine and are usually used for short trips. The fare is relatively low. Vedis are larger boats and used for longer trips to outer atolls. Resorts may have their own boats that offer transport facility to different locations near by. Speedboats are also available for hire in Maldives.

4. Ship

A large number of cruise ships termed as a safari, operate at the outer atolls. Many cruise ships arrive at different ports and harbors in the Maldives from all over the world. Cruises last for a few hours or a day and include entertainment, dining and recreational facilities on board.

5. Taxi

Taxis are available only on the capital island of Male' and provide a 24 hour service. Taxis are not metered and the fare should be decided upon before the taxi is hired. Taxis can either be flagged on the road or can be booked or called to your hotel. A minimum fare of 15 Rf is applicable with an extra charge for additional luggage. There is no charge for extra passengers.
