Weather

Malta's weather conditions and average temperatures are greatly influenced by the sea. The weather pattern has a typical Mediterranean touch, which is similar to that found in southern Italy or southern Greece. The weather is characterized by hot, dry summers, warm and intermittently wet autumns, and short, cool winters with sufficient rainfall. Nearly three-fourths of the total annual rainfall of about 600 millimeters (24 inches) falls between October and March.

The temperature is constant with the annual mean being 64ºF and the monthly averages ranging from 54ºF to 88ºF. Malta's hot, dry summers can at times worsen and cause severe discomfort owing to the Sirocco Wind, but are otherwise a sunny, Mediterranean treat.

Conditions are quite enjoyable in winter with January averaging in a mild range of 50-58°F. Winters occasionally have unusual spells of cold weather, which are caused by north and northeast winds blowing from central Europe.

1. Best Times To Go

The best time to visit Malta is during the months of spring or autumn. You could also visit the islands from February to June, or during the rainy season. The best months to visit Malta for business purposes are October to May.

2. What To Wear

If you were planning to visit Malta between the summer months of July and September, it would be wise enough to carry along some shorts or light trousers for the evenings. Apart from that, you could also carry along some short-sleeved shirts/t-shirts for the men. Women can also opt for lightweight clothing, preferably made from cotton. A cap and sunscreen lotion is a must during the summers.

If you are planning to visit anytime between the months of November to February, carry along some warm clothing.
