Nightlife
While planning a visit to Mauritius you are advised to keep in mind the fact that the nightlife can prove to be quiet dull and boring. The Mauritius idea of fun and pleasure is extremely time bound and conventional. The political and religious powers are so linked up as a result of which every one in Mauritius is sent packing to bed at 10 p.m. However, the party scene is much more comfortable and relaxed compared to what it was 10 years ago. Large hotels and resorts may host private parties and discos to entertain their visitors.
A. Favorite Spots
Stardance and Godz discothèque
Royal road, Grand Bay.
The Stardance and Godz discotheque is technically the largest discothèque in Grand Bay. It is well equipped and boasts of excellent sound systems. It is a purely commercial discotheque and attracts a great deal of locals as well as tourists visiting the island. The music played in the disco is a mixture of both international and local stuff.
The Banana Café, (bar)
Royal road Grand Bay,
The Banana café is comfortably located and has a semi open bar that is nicely set-up under trees and was the first of its kind to be set up on the island. The bar frequently hosts live rock and jazz sessions. Jam sessions are generally conducted every weekend and sustained recorded music is played along the rest of the time. The place gets quiet crowded during weekends and the prices charged are pretty reasonable.
The Zanzibar (fun bar / discothèque)
Royal road, Grand Bay.
The Zanzibar is situated in the same locality as the Banana. However, the concept and theme of the place is completely different and there are only a small proportion of the Banana clients that move to the Zanzibar afterwards. The Zanzibar is a cross between a fun bar and a small discothèque. A younger generation of crowd usually visits the place and clubbers who prefer the hip-hop and R&B genres of music crowd the place. The sound quality offered may not be the best but is considered satisfactory. The Zanzibar remains one of the two acceptable places of Grand Bay as the people visiting it are usually young and well behaved.
The Buddha Club (Discotheque)
Royal road, Grand Bay.
The Buddha club was initially started as a fun bar. However, over a period of time it was transformed into a nightclub. There is no entry fee that is charged and the place is generally crowded at all times.
The music played in the disco is mainly in-house and is generally well accepted. However, the sound system lacks quality.
The club proves to be ideal for clubbers in the age group of 20 to 30's who wish to dance all night long on up-to-date music.
Open on: Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
