Nightlife
Moroccan nightlife would be incomplete without belly dancing. It consists of a variety of entertainments in the form of bars, casinos, discos, nightclubs and restaurants including belly dancing. The nightclubs of the country are spread all over the resorts and cities of Morocco. Marrackech, Mohammedia, Agadir and Tangier are home to a number of casinos.
The nightlife of Morocco is mainly divided in to three categories, namely, tourist tack, local upmarket and local sleeze. The holiday packages available mostly in hotels and offering ‘oriental' entertainments including belly dancing are known as the tourist tack. Tourist tack packages are quite expensive. The local upmarket places are the nightclubs and bars, connected to the five star hotels. These upmarket places are also very expensive and thus only a selected portion comprising of the rich and aristocrats can actually think of visiting these places.
The local sleaze bars are usually attached to cheap hotels. According to the Moroccan law, the public display of alcohol is not allowed although selling and consumption is allowed. Thus, carrying a bottle in public or drinking in public is prohibited in this country with bars having blinded windows and terraces never facing public spaces. The women visiting the local sleaze bars are considered to be of loose character, as according to the Moroccan belief a woman of respect would never visit such a place.
