The entire peninsular area of Italy including Sardinia and Sicily are marked by a changing weather. This changing weather is particularly noticed during autumn, winter and spring. On the contrary the summer weather is settled with stable sunny days. The unpredictable weather starts from early September continuing till late May. Winter in Sicily is marked by cloudy and rainy days, punctuated by short spells of mild and sunny intervals.

The coastal areas experience a moderate heat and sea breezes in the summer days. However, the nights can get warm and humid. The southern part of the mainland including Sardinia and Sicily experiences the least amount of rainfall and the maximum hours of sunshine. An average sunshine of four to five hours in winter and ten to eleven hours in summer can be experienced in these regions.

1. Best Times To Go

The time between October to November and March to June is considered to the best time for general sightseeing. Late January to early February can be best for snow lovers and those who want ski on the Mount Etna. June to September is ideal for all those who love sunshine and enjoy the warm beach atmosphere. However, it is important to note that the months of July, August and the first two weeks of September get very hot. The month of August is usually the most frequented month with its crowded beaches.

2. What To Wear

The most essential thing to pack for Sicily would be a pair of comfortable shoes, as the trip would involve a lot of walking around. Even the summers on Mount Etna are quite cool and may require light warm clothes. Women are not advised to wear shorts and sleeveless blouses while visiting the Churches. Even men are rarely found to be wearing shorts here. Topless costumes are allowed in beaches. Tourists visiting in summer may carry light wear comfortable cotton clothes. It would be wise to carry an umbrella or light rainwears it might rain or snow occasionally, depending on the time of your visit.
