There are four seasons in Japan. The year begins with freezing cold winter. Snowfalls may also occur but not regularly. Minimum temperatures in January can fall below 0?F. Spring in Tokyo is a very pleasant season as also autumn. Temperatures cool down in this season and the days are sunny and clear. Summers are hot and humid. Minimum and maximum average summer temperatures in the month of May are 56?F and 71?F respectively. The rains start to really pour in late June. The average minimum and maximum temperatures in August are 73?F and 87?F respectively. August and September see torrents of rain falling on Tokyo.

The spring and autumn months would be the best time to visit Tokyo.

2. What to Wear

It is advisable to wear appropriately warm clothing to protect yourselves against the biting cold of the Tokyo winters. Also, in the rains remember to carry an umbrella. You can also think of wearing rain gear and boots too.

During the spring months of March, April and May the temperature is mild but you would do better to carry a jacket just in case. Despite the temperature being high in spring, people still wear light jackets.

The rainy season starts from June and continues into July and August. You are advised to carry umbrellas during these times. Rainwear is advisable even in the autumn as the weather is usually unpredictable.

Summers are typically hot and there is a high content of humidity in the atmosphere. However, people in Tokyo tend to wear more clothes even in summer.

Blue and white colored shirts and dark suits are considered the best for formal business attire for men. Also, the clean-shaven look is appreciated in Japan.

Black ties and an all-black look are to be avoided, as that is the funeral attire in Japan.
