40 Vacations - Travel Guides - Destination Venezuela
Weather
Venezuela is positioned within the tropics and based upon particular regions elevation, the climate ranges from tropical, humid to alpine. Topography, wind speed and direction, influences the country's temperature figures. The rains last from May through November and this period is considered to be wintertime as well. The remaining months from December to April are summer times. The country is classified in four horizontal temperature zones that have been founded mainly on altitude. The tropical zone experiences high temperature, the temperate zone defines the region between 800 and 2,000 meters and most of Venezuela's cities are located here. Colder surroundings prevail in the region between 2,000 and 3,000 meters and the snowy regions averages temperatures below 46.4° F and are above 3,000 meter in the mountain region known as the páramos. The average country temperatures are 77°F. Caracas, the capital city averages 72°F and variations are within 8°F. The dry season, verano and the rainy season, invierno, are distinguished more by variation in rainfall than by temperatures.

1. Best Times to Go
Visitors favor the months between, November through February, as European and North American destinations tend to be cold. This is not an absolute trend as the country sees a host of tourists all through the year. During holidays (Christmas and Easter) and school holidays between late July and early September, the locals travel a lot, which makes it difficult to find hotel and transportation reservations. Some budget conscious tourists, prefer the period from April through June as tourist offices provide great deals to keep the income flowing and visitors can take advantage of reasonable price points and minimal rush. Because of its ideal location close to the equator, Venezuela is enjoyable all through the year. The dry season between September to April is a good time to go whereas others may prefer to visit at the end of the wet season as the Angel falls are at their best during this time.
2. What to wear
The weather is mostly humid; hence, summer clothes and swimming suits are a must. This does not eliminate the need for jackets and sweaters as indoors; the air conditioning is very effective and summer clothes are not sufficient to deal with it. Full sleeved uppers and long pants and socks are necessary when considering outdoor events. This protects against insect bites. As a result of the all year long sporadic rainfall it is advisable to have extra clothing as well as rain gear, boots and raincoats for protection against unexpected shower.
